Fundamentals, Smaart Operator Training (2-day)

2-day Smaart Operator Fundamentals training session hosted by GerrAudio Distribution and taught by design and tuning expert, Ian Robertson.
The 2-day Smaart Operator: Fundamentals class covers the first principals of setting up and configuring a Smaart measurement rig and using Smaart v9 to make basic RTA, Spectrograph, Transfer Function and Impulse Response measurements. Class structure will be a mix of theory and practical application.
This course begins with an overview of both the general system measurement theory involved as well as the operational context in which Smaart is used, namely in Sound System Engineering and Alignment. This course focuses on providing the attendee with a functional knowledge of how Smaart operates as a tool before expanding to the application of that tool in sound system engineering, and as much as possible, examines data interpretation as much as acquisition.

The course will run from 9AM - 5PM daily, with a one hour lunch break and a morning and afternoon snack break. Lunch will not be provided and will be offsite. There are several options close-by.
BEFORE YOU ARRIVE:
The measurement signals used in the class will be distributed using a Dante audio network. Class attendees must bring a laptop computer with both the latest version of Smaart v9 measurement software and Dante Virtual Soundcard (DVS) installed. A 30-day demo version of Smaart v9 is available online at www.rationalacoustics.com.

Join this session to get an exclusive look at how Clear-Com technology revolutionized communications at a Canadian nuclear power plant. Hosted by Geoff Maurice and Erik Devane, this workshop will dive into the advanced wireless and IP-based solutions that were deployed to improve life safety and work efficiency of the technicians inside one of the most demanding environments.
During this session, attendees will be exposed to the inner workings of the plant’s largescale Clear-Com system comprising over four Matrix frames, multiple E-IPA Eclipse HX cards, and hundreds of wireless belt packs. Geoff and Erik will also demonstrate a custom-built web interface that was designed for the power plant to streamline workflows and redefine safety standards across departments.

12:00PM • Solving Audio Over IP Connectivity (AoiP) in the Digital Age

In today’s audio world, digital audio systems have surpassed people’s expectations and dare we say, becoming the go-to systems over the more traditional counterparts. Many audio formats exist and are in use today....Formats such as Dante, AVB/MILAN, Cobranet, Ethersound, MADI, AES3, AES50, MADI, and Analog are all still in use and can be found in many installations dating back 20+ years. AV professionals are faced with the difficult challenge of designing/retrofitting new systems to work with existing infrastructures and need help designing solutions that can bridge these audio technologies.
This course will cover the advantages and disadvantages of these AoiP formats and what solutions exist to bridge these technologies effectively and reliably.

1:00PM • System Design of Toronto's Iconic Scotiabank Arena
Presented by Bob McCarthy, Meyer Sound
Modern sports franchises face increasing challenges to bring fans out of their homes and into the communal space of an arena or stadium. Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena has accepted this challenge with a huge audio upgrade bringing full power, full spectrum, top to bottom coverage and spatial movement with a new Meyer Sound Panther/2100-LFC/Spacemap GO system. The installation was a multi-level collaboration of parties including the venue ownership, Canadian consulting firm Engineering Harmonics, integration partner Aligned Vision Group, Gerraudio Distribution and Meyer Sound. The needs of both the Maple Leafs and Raptors, as well as future concert productions were all factored into the design and installation.
At Demo Days, attendees will gain a unique perspective on the design and optimization of this iconic venue, led by industry legend 6o6 McCarthy. Joining him are Ian Robertson of GerrAudio, along with Josh Dorn-Fehrmann and David Vincent from Meyer Sound, all of whom played pivotal roles in the design and tuning stages of the project. During the session, Bob will share the MAPP design files, installation photos, and Smaart data, offering a deep dive into the process behind this collaboration.
